The Astoria School of Ballet was founded by Margaret Wall in June 2004 and has since become recognized as the premier ballet school on the Oregon Coast. Ms. Wall grew up near Ann Arbor, Michigan where she began her ballet training at age three with Lee Ann King. At 12, Maggie began studying with Mr. Iacob Lascu in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan where she was truly shaped as a dancer and received numerous opportunities to perform professionally with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Michigan Opera Theatre. She spent summers studying with BalletMet in Columbus, OH and The Kirov Academy in D.C. With more professional ballet experience than any other local teacher, Ms. Wall has raised the standard of the area’s dance scene and teaches higher quality ballet classes for all ages and levels. The Astoria School of Ballet’s small class sizes allow each dancer the personal attention he or she requires, and class lengths are adequate for comprehensive study. Our goal at ASB is to provide high quality ballet training in an environment that promotes a genuine appreciation for the art, physical strength, concentration, music awareness, and poise, with emphasis placed on the self-assurance and joy that comes with personal progress. Ballet is meant to be shared, seen and felt, so performance opportunities are a priority at ASB and are considered supplemental to classroom learning. At a certain age and level of maturity, serious ASB students are encouraged to audition for and attend summer ballet intensives across the country. Not only is it good for students to experience different teachers and styles and meet other dedicated dancers like themselves, it is highly promoted at ASB. Students from our school have been accepted to attend summer intensives at many of the best ballet schools in the country including American Ballet Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, The Kirov Academy, The Houston Ballet Academy, The Joffrey Ballet School, Milwaukee Ballet, Ballet Austin, Walnut Hill, The Rock School For Dance Education, Boston Ballet School, Texas Ballet Theater, The Gelsey Kirkland Academy, The School at Oregon Ballet Theatre, and Jacob's Pillow.
